How do I uninstall the Windows screen saver? |
| |
Windows - Check to see which version of the software you are running. To do this
open the SoftStuff Screen Saver Configuration program and go to the "About"
tab
Version 1.x.
- Remove the "Softstuf" directory that was most likely created on your
C: drive.
- Edit the "C:\Windows\Win.ini" file. Near the top of the file you
will find a line that reads something like: run=c:\softstuf\softstrt.exe.
If this is all that is on the line, delete the entire line. If there
is more, then delete only the reference to c:\softstuf\softstrt.exe.
- In the C:\Windows\control.ini file, delete the section that looks like
this:
[ScreenSaver.SoftStuff]
TimeBetween=1
CurrentSet=Scenic Arizona
PWProtected=0
Transition=1
ShowTextDescription=0
CurrentImageNumber=20
CurrentImageName=Waterfall in Salt River Canyon
- Delete
the following three files:
c:\windows\Softsavr.scr
c:\windows\Softstuf.bmp
c:\windows\softstuf.ini
Version 2.x
- Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
- Select "SoftStuff Screen Saver"
- Click "Add/Remove" button
- Click "Yes" when asked if you really want to uninstall
- Delete the "Softstuf" directory that was most likely created on your
C: drive ( if it still exists)

SOFTSTUFF IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED !!!!!!!! TRANSFER YOUR SOFTSTUFF IMAGES TO AZUREBAY |
| |
Softstuff screen savers were created in the mid to late 1990's primarily for windows 3.1, windows 95, and windows 98. Since then both Microsoft Windows and the screen saver software have gone through a lot of changes and upgrades.
SoftStuff images were pretty good in their day. As Monitors have become better however, most softstuff images have trouble stretching to fit the higher monitor resolutions and still keep their clarity and sharpness. Many softstuff images were only 640x480 pixels, while many of the AzureBay images today are 1600x1200 pixels. There are still some screen saver titles in-between that have not been updated to the higher 1600x1200 resolution. Most AzureBay titles have been updated with 1600x1200 resolution images. The few AzureBay titles that still need to be updated, have a minimum of 1024x768 image resolutions.
Most SoftStuff images are transferable to the AzureBay program, except where the images and text files are too old.
To Transfer SoftStuff Images to AzureBay...
- First have a working AzureBay program. If you don't have one you can download a Free version from the AzureBay homepage
- Find the folder containing your SoftStuff images. It will either be in C:\SoftStuf\ or in C:\Program Files\SoftStuff\
- Copy your SoftStuff image folder over to C:\Program Files\AzureBay\AzureBay ScreenSaver\
- The AzureBay program should automatically recognize the new image set. You can access them by opening the AzureBay configuration window and clicking on the image set drop down menu.
- After the new image set is listed in AzureBay and working properly. You can uninstall SoftStuff from your computer using add/remove programs in the windows control panel. For problems uninstalling, see the uninstall portion of this web page.
